When the all-conquering Emperor Trajan throws his great games of AD107, the crowd are treated to a rare sight: the gladiatrix Mevia is challenging the reality of a woman’s place in the Roman world.

Trajan’s empire is booming, successful and reaching its greatest ever extent, but on the sands of the Colosseum, there is a battle for Rome’s values.

COLOSSEUM is a 8x60 drama-documentary series uncovering what life was really like in the Roman Empire through the microcosm of its bloodiest arena.

Blending expert interviews and cinematic scripted drama, each of the eight episodes tells the true story of a single character whose fate was inextricably bound to the Colosseum.
