WOOLFORD GIBBON

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER & SHOWRUNNER

Johanna is a creative award-winning and multi-nominated Factual Executive Producer & Showrunner, consistently delivering compelling and genre-defining factual series with a sense of scale and cinematic ambition. Her focus is to ensure complex character-driven narratives are steeped in humanity and emotion. Her work - engaging and stylish, with a lightness of touch - has been recognised by the Broadcasting Press Guild,  Realscreen and the Television Academies, as well as at the New York Festivals (Film & TV) Awards, National Film Awards & Jackson Hole Science Media Awards.

As Executive Producer, she has over 110 hours of programming experience across a wide range of budget tariffs, including Realscreen Award-nominated drama docu-series ERASED: WW2's HEROES OF COLOR for Nat Geo/Disney+, and 12 times Emmy nominated AFRICAN QUEENS for Netflix.  Her clients include Disney+, Netflix, National Geographic, History (A&E Networks) and Sky History.

Most recently, Johanna was Executive Producer on a 6-part premium contemporary history docu-series for a US streamer (title under NDA). And has also completed a senior Consultancy role in the editing phase of a feature-length mega-doc series, bringing to life three 'titans of the ages' - Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra - for ANCIENT EMPIRES, a landmark event for HISTORY in the US.

As Showrunner, Johanna's recent documentary credits include DAMIAN LEWIS: SPY WARS for Sky History, described by the Wall Street Journal as ‘exceptionally nuanced’ and ‘eight chapters of enthralling power’. The series was nominated for a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Documentary Series.

Two of her films from the BAFTA nominated Series 4 of Nat Geo’s  DRAIN THE OCEANS were winners of the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards in the Science & Technology and History & Science categories.

As Executive Producer, Showrunner & Series Producer, Johanna’s experience in high end drama-documentary has been with some of the industry’s most prestigious production companies, and her portfolio as Series Producer includes the History Channel’s biggest drama-documentary commission to date, COLOSSEUM - uncovering the dark realities of life in the Roman Empire through the microcosm of its most bloody arena. The series was described by the Guardian as "a barnstorming spectacle" and "a rollicking journey through 300 years of Roman history which could not be a more appealing introduction to the subject'.".  The Spectator added, "Colosseum was a feat almost unparalleled in the history of popular entertainment" and "The kind of thing tv was made for - its educational, entertaining and visually enthralling".

Johanna has also served as a Grierson reviewer.
